Toastmasters Nursing Team

Friday evening, Christmas Day 2009, when Michelle and I were in the hot spring bath at a wooden cabin in Yangmingshan National Park, I heard of Libby's dreadful disease for the first time.

Toastmaster Libby Chang is the incumbent President of Formosa Toastmasters club. She is also an active member of Legacy Toastmasters Club. In addition, Libby belongs to many volunteer interpreters groups, such as National Palace Museum, Presidential Hall, CKS Memorial Hall, and many others.

Libby had fainted several times during December 5 to December 22. She couldn't recognize people, not even her husband. She couldn't function on her own. The cause of her disease might be virus, but was still under investigation.

In less than a week, Irene of Formosa and Eva of Legacy attempted google link for the nursery team to seek for toastmasters volunteers to fill in the two hours time slots to take care of Libby. Every caretaker was requested to document Libby's status in a ledger in Ward 376-1 and to be a cheerleader of Libby.

With my medical background and a status of a full-time housewife, I was obliged to offer my helping hands. I signed up immediately five time slots, from January 1st till 9th to spend two hours with Libby and her family every other day to follow Libby's disease course closely.

I was happy to see Libby recover well gradually. I was happy that I participated in the meaningful event beyond toastmasters clubs. Irene and Eva took the initiatives to form a nurse team in time. If they apply for a CL project "Help Organize a Club Special Event" or "Chair a Club Special Event", the nursing team of Irene and Eva will certainly be the most touching and moving event in Toastmasters history in Taiwan.
